NEW 5 Star Training Kayak
The 5 star award indicates you have entered the top level of performance.
Over the 3 days we will concentrate on giving you the personal skills to efficiently paddle on grade 3 and 4 and give you the leadership qualities needed to take groups on advanced river journeys.
By the end of the course your paddling will have improved and you will be confident in ability to lead in these environments.
You will also have the understanding of the standard required to pass your five star kayak award we will cover
- Efficient and effective on sight grade 3 river running skills (that will enable up to 20km to be led in one day)
- The use of eddies
- Positioning in the flow
- Running drops
- Using, or avoiding features to aid descent (inc. waves, stoppers, diagonals & tow back)
- Paddle identified safe and realistic lines on grade 4 after inspection
- White water roll
- Boat and bank based safety and rescue skills
- Incident management and first aid in the 5 star environment
- Being an effective team leader and team member in rescues / incidents
- Leadership strategies, judgement and decision making

Non Residential or Full Board at Ffynnon Wen. 6 places per course.
Full board course is inclusive of meals and accommodation at Ffynnon Wen for the three days and use of all equipment. Transport is not included. There is an option for B&B before or after the course*
